Another Cake Plate

This green depression glass cake plate is at home in my china cabinet, along with all those other mementos of my life and past generations. It was difficult to catch the beauty of the "sunflowers" in the photograph. The plate was someone else's family heirloom that I purchased at an estate sale several years ago on a trip back to Iowa. I really love those estate auctions, but, have to control myself on bidding on everything I would like to have. I would have to purchase another china cabinet and where would I put that ??

Take a Powder

This pretty green depression era powder box was an antique mall purchase several years ago. It's look struck my fancy and I "couldn't live without" it !!! The days of having fancy bottles and accessories on a dressing table, have for me, gone by way of having a nice dressing - powder room area off my main bathroom. In my years of growing up on the farm, sharing a room with my sister and for a number of years, no indoor bathroom, (UGH ! those were the days !!), there was always a piece of furniture called a vanity dresser in our bedroom. All the personal care items were kept and used there. Yes, I had talcum powder, but, didn't have this pretty of a container to keep it in.

"Blues"

In the early 70's, as a hair stylist and owner of my own salon, I wanted to create a display of vintage beauty related items. This blue depression era powder box and perfume was my first purchase at an antique store in Tulsa towards putting a collection together for that display. The hunt proved to be more difficult than I expected and I never completed my quest. However, over the years since, I have collected a few vintage powder boxes "just because" I love their beauty and the images of "milady's dressing table" that come to mind when I see them !
