Candy, Anyone?

This pink depression glass candy dish was another one of those "things" that I talked my Mom out of several years ago ! It was something she acquired in the early years of her marriage. I have it filled with seashells and sitting on an end table (actually, the old wicker trunk) in my living area. Most of the seashells came from that trip to Hawaii that you and I took years ago. I realized the other day that I have been posting on this blog for over a year and there are still a few things around my home that have a story to tell. And then, of course, some of those old photos will conjure up some childhood memories. Seems there are not enough hours in the day as I need to accomplish all I want to do these days !!

Pink Depression Glass

This small pink three footed bowl is similar to the plain pink one I have that was a wedding gift to my Mom and Dad. This was in a box of items I purchased at a farm auction in Iowa a few years ago. I bid on the boxful because of this bowl as it reminded me of the etched one of Mom's which my sister has. AND, we love bowls !! If memory serves me correctly, the bowl Shirley has is a bit more delicate. Right now, this is at home in the storage area of the china cabinet.

Pretty in Pink

I purchased this pink depression glass "platter" at a farm auction in Iowa several years ago. It measures about 11" across and has a home in my china cabinet. Most times at auctions, boxes of miscellaneous items will be put up for bid. You may end up with items that you wonder what on earth you are going to do with, or, things that may be just plain ugly in your eyes, but, in order to get that one thing in the box that you really love, you bid and hopefully win. All the extra items are good for the next garage sale if the price was right !!

Pass the sugar, please

This pink depression glass sugar bowl and creamer were among some items found in a high kitchen cabinet when I was helping Mom do some cleaning on one of my visits about 30 years ago. I didn't remember ever seeing them or that they were ever used and when I mentioned this to Mom, she said that she just never liked them, so they were always just stored away. They were a wedding gift and of course, Mom could never just get rid of things, even if she didn't like them !! Well, me, in all my shyness, said " Can I have them?" Mom would never say "no" to her favorite daughter ! I have never used them, either, and like my Mom, can't bear to just get rid of them ! My china cabinet shelves are full because of this "inherited trait" -- each and every item having its own story.
