Hilery and I made our seasonal trip to the Bellagio a couple of weeks ago and as always, the Conservatory was another beautiful display of flowers for the season, plus other attractions. The daffodils in the spring are always my most favorite of all the flowers. Hilery, always photogenic, struck this pose along the sidewalk lined with California poppies. Another lovely day of Gramma/Grand-daughter bonding !!!
And a Merry Christmas Eve !! What is it about photos of children with Santa that are so endearing ? And, isn't it wonderful when the child is happy and not afraid of the man with the flowing white beard dressed in that red suit ? This picture of Hilery some 20 plus years ago is a reminder to me that Santa Claus is real !! Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus !!
Call it fate, call it destiny, call it what you like !! The fact that Hilery and I have both come to call Las Vegas "home" was not something either of us would have ever foreseen !!. We had a conversation the other day about choosing a place to settle down. Las Vegas would probably NOT have been the city we would have chosen. As "fate" would have it, your Dad's job moved us here. As "destiny" would have it, I introduced Hilery to the love of her life when she came for a visit at age 19. Now, I have lived here longer than anywhere else I have ever settled in my lifetime. Hilery, playing a vintage slot machine, is about 4 years old in this photo taken in her other grandparent's "playroom".
This photo of Hilery and me, (Gramma), was taken at a park in Izmir, Turkey in 1981. You once made the statement that Hilery looked at me as a "big" playmate. I always had fun with her when I had the opportunity to be with her. Now, she is all grown up, lives close to me, and we still have fun "playing" together. Your "Bird Book" at http://www.twodogstudio.blogspot.com/ on June 4, has been our inspiration for our "play sessions" the last few weeks. We should have our books finished soon and I can hardly wait to post photos for you to see. It is always amazing to me how each artist with the same inspiring theme will turn out a totally different look to their finished project.
When Sharon and I went to Sam's Town last week to see a movie (senior discount day on Tuesday's), we were walking through the atrium. Along one of the walkways. a hibiscus was in full bloom. It reminded me of this photo of Hilery and Ozzie dog taken in Okinawa. Where we lived, we not only had a gorgeous hedge row of hibiscus, but, also on one side of the house, a whole row of poinsettia "bushes". Hilery in her little hibiscus print muu-muu and flower in her hair, plus the back drop of hibiscus made for a pretty cute photo-op !! Ozzie was a neighbor dog that spent as much time at our house as he did his own home.
Our journal, named "We Three", started in 2005, is nearing completion. It has been a thought provoking, creative journey for the three of us and I for one, am happy with the avenues we have traveled !! That was the year I retired and Hilery asked me to join her in an altered art class. I was hooked !! My first pictorial journal was the one I created in memory of your Dad, "The Book of Douglas". Mary, our teacher at many of the classes we attended that summer, was telling us about a written journal that she and her grandson exchanged with each other. I began to think about a creative journal for the three of us to participate in and share. We have each taken turns choosing a theme and created a page around that idea, then wrote a paragraph about it. Of course, I think you two girls are more creative than I am, but, I am more than thrilled with how this project has taken form. Will we do another when this one comes to a close, or will we come up with a new idea ??
